Canbury School aims to offer a broad and balanced curriculum to all age groups, underpinned by the requirements of the National Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.
In Years 7, 8 and 9, a wide variety of subjects are followed alongside the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science which include Spanish, Geography, History, Information Technology, Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music, Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE), PE and Games.
Later in Years 10 and 11, Music and Drama are dropped while Business Studies is taken up as a GCSE subject. All other subjects are continued to GCSE level (except IT, DT, PSHE and PE) and Physics, Chemistry and Biology are taken as doubly-certificated GCSE subjects.
Skills are developed using a suite of computers and all pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 follow the OCR New CLAiT syllabus, a programme of study which covers word processing, emails, spreadsheets, databases, presentation graphics, charts, graphs and web page design. In Years 10 and 11, pupils may choose to pursue the CLAiT Plus course.
After lunch and after school clubs take place every day, varying from term to term, which include electronics, natural history, drama, karate, art, gardening, computing, board games, table tennis and a variety of sports.
All classes are taught by specialist teachers in each subject. Each year group has its own tutor who is responsible for the general supervision and pastoral care of that year.
