Mr. Robin F. Metters - Headmaster
Robin was appointed Headmaster in January 2002 having been Principal of an International School in North London for sixteen years. He has experience of all age groups, is the holder of a B.Ed. degree, has been a member of I.S.A. and I.A.P.S., is a keen sailor and is a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Yacht Club. His interests include gastronomy, golf and the theatre.
Mrs. Farah Choudhry - Mathematics
B.A. (Hons) Kingston University, P.G.C.E. Leicester University. Joined the staff of Canbury as Head of Mathematics in September 2000. Year 8 Form Tutor, in charge of MIDYIS testing. Lives locally and has 2 young children.
Mr. Samuel Denham - Business Studies and Geography
Sam joined Canbury in September 2010 as a full time member of staff, teaching Geography, Business Studies, Games and he is Form Tutor for Year 9. He has a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Environmental Management and also holds Qualified Teacher Status. He has taught at Warminster School and Parliament Hill School in North London. He is a keen cricketer, enjoys mountaineering and walking and would like to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme at Canbury.
Mrs. Annie Emslie - Special Educational Needs
B.A. (Hons) Newcastle University, P.G.C.E. University of Bristol, Dip. Special Needs Kingston University. Originally trained as an infant teacher followed by stints in Housing Advice, Speech and Language Therapy and living in the USA before turning to secondary school teaching in a large comprehensive school. Joined the staff in September 1999 as a part time Learning Support Teacher. Now Annie is second in charge and SENCO as well as carrying out many other important duties which include Examination Officer, Careers Officer and Year 7 Tutor. Amongst her many hobbies, she enjoys gardening, house decorating and travelling. She has 3 grown up children and a teenage son.
Mrs. Wendy Faulkner - Music
G.S.M. (Guildhall School of Music and Drama), P.G.C.E. University of Leeds. Joined the staff in September 1994 as part time Teacher of Music. Wendy is the Director of music at St. James’ Church in Merton, runs a private practice teaching piano and music theory and is a counsellor at the Gestalt centre in London and for the Bereavement service in Merton and Sutton. Other interests include being a member of the Kingston Choral Society, visiting art exhibitions and places of historical interest, going to concerts and body boarding and walking in Cornwall. She has 2 grown up children.
Mrs. Patricia Jevons - Biology
B.Sc (Hons) University of Leicester, P.G.C.E. University of London. Pat began her career at Canbury in January 1998, teaching Biology throughout the school. She began teaching in 1968 and has taught in secondary schools in and around London since then. She is a keen animal lover and has her own pet pythons, hamsters and dog as well as chickens. She enjoys travelling and sports and is an enthusiastic Arsenal supporter.
Mrs. Clare Morley - History
Clare became Head of History at Canbury in September 2003. She has a B.Soc.Sci. (Hons) from University of Birmingham and P.G.C.E. from Goldsmiths College. She has worked as a History Teacher in secondary education for over 20 years. She has trained as an advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau and lists her interests and pastimes as reading, badminton, jogging, travel, PTA and the church.
Mr. David Natt - English
David was appointed to the staff in September 2000 and now teaches English and Drama, as well as being the Year 11 Form Tutor. He has a B.A. (Hons) from Selwyn College, Cambridge and a P.G.C.E. from Exeter University. He is the author of many published articles concerned with gastronomy, food and wine and states that he is a “keen if (regrettably) unpublished poet”.
Ms. Kels Noades - Art
BA Hons Photography at Manchester Met. Kels has worked professionally as a photographer doing work for the likes of The Express newspaper, Touch magazine, The British Journal of Photography and Elle magazine among others. She has exhibited her work around the country and co-founded a group that organised an exhibition in London for a group of 26 Manchester based artists. PGCE in Art & Design at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Kels has worked at St. Bonaventure's, Stratford, St. Mary's in Croydon and spent 2 years at Whitgift School in Croydon prior to coming to Canbury as Head of Art, PME and DT.
Mr. David Orchard - ICT, Sports
David joined the staff in September 1998 and has taught a wide selection of subjects during his time at the school. He is now Head of Games and I.C.T. He has a B.Hum. (Hons) from London University and holds a P.G.C.E. He is Year 10 Form Tutor, produces the school calendar, is the principal First Aid Officer at the school and organises many activities including the Camping and Canoeing Trip at the end of the Summer Term and the annual sponsored walk in the Park and along the River Thames. As an U19 he played basketball for S. W. England and Somerset. He was Surrey Decathlon Champion in his mid thirties and is a keen tennis player. He has travelled and lived (as a child) in various parts of the world including Aden, Australia and Malawi.
Ms. Raquel Porto-Vazquez - Spanish and Games
Raquel joined Canbury as Teacher of Spanish and Games in January 2007. She completed her degree in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) with her year abroad in Portsmouth, where she went back to do her P.G.C.E. She started teaching in a secondary school in Winchester where she taught Spanish, French and even Citizenship. Raquel really enjoys yoga, reading and dancing.
Mrs. Alison Ryder - ESOL
BSc. in Food, Textiles and Consumer Studies; South Bank Polytechnic; Personnel Management Diploma (IPD), Kingston University; CELTA. Alison joined Canbury as ESOL Teacher in September 2009. After gaining her degree, Alison spent a year backpacking around Australia before returning to the UK and working in Human Resources for the romantic fiction publisher, Mills & Boon. Prior to joining Canbury, Alison worked in Kingston teaching ESOL to adults. Her interests include skiing, reading and gardening. She has two teenagers, one dog, one rabbit and a leopard gecko.
Mr. Neil Williams - Physics
Neil joined Canbury as part-time Teacher of Physics in September 2008. He taught physics at Sevenoaks School and had been Head of Science at four schools, both state and private, most recently at Chinthurst Preparatory School in Tadworth.
His interests are mainly sporting and musical. He is a qualified cricket coach and umpire and is Secretary of the Surrey Schools Table Tennis Association. He is a member of Epsom Choral Society and the choir of St. Mary's Church, Long Ditton.
