Entrance Requirements and Selection Procedure

The Headmaster and/or SENCO interview every child.  Short standardised tests in Reading, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning are usually set and a report from the previous school is also required.  Often, we also organise a trial day at the school.

We like to obtain as much information as possible about prospective pupils so that, before offering a place, we are sure we are able to serve the child’s needs and that Canbury is an appropriate school for the child.

Open Days are usually held in the Autumn Term and an Assessment morning takes place shortly after this.  Individual tours of the school and assessments can also be arranged at convenient times.

Places are offered on a “first come first served” basis any time from the start of the Autumn Term preceding the child’s entry into Year 7 the following September.

The usual point of entry is 11+ years in Year 7 but we may also have occasional places in other year groups.

The aim of the assessment process is to identify potential.  We are looking for well-rounded pupils with interests that stretch beyond the confines of the academic curriculum.  No specific preparation for the assessment tests is needed.

Once an offer has been made by the School, a completed Acceptance Form and deposit secures the place.
